Eco Bricks

Eco Bricks – Hessie se stene

The Hessie’s Bricks story began in 2021 when 2 students from Sista/Sista started a social impact project in the Faure community.

Vulnerable women were taught how to make an eco-brick. Ouma Hessie who is 83 years old joined the group. Ouma Hessie’s hands at this stage already spoke of many years of hardship, but still her enthusiasm and wisdom along with a wonderful sense of humor inspired the other women so much that it was decided to call the project “Hessie se Stene” now referred to as Hessie’s Bricks.

Making Eco-bricks is a way of storing non-recyclable plastic preventing it from ending up in landfills. Once the bricks are completed, Waste-ed removes it to sites where it is used in sustainable building projects. Waste-ed is also a project driven by a women

Hessie’s Bricks creates jobs, it helps with the awareness of being accountable for the environment, restores dignity and empowers vulnerable woman.
